In today's world, many African musicians believe that advancement in their musical journey as ceasing to perform their own indigenous music. They state that "I no longer play local music". They consider their indigenous music as to be"local" The African Folk Band strongly opposes this downgrading.

The African Folk Band is a band that celebrates African culture and music. We feel that African culture and music are magnificent and should never be marginalized, neglected, undervalued or forgotten. The beauty of African music lies in its rhythms, vocals, language, and the undeniable nostalgic sensations it evokes in both the player and the listener.
