Call for entries: Akinyemilaw Song Challenge in Nigeria
Nigerian songwriters and producers can now apply for the Akinyemilaw Song Challenge on Instagram.
The contest is organised by lawyer and entrepreneur Akinyemi Ayinoluwa and powered by his GreySage Consulting company, which also runs the GreySage Songwriting Contest. The competition will see two songwriters and two record producers share a cash prize of ₦200 000 ($490).
This is solely an Instagram-based challenge and the deadline for submissions is 11 July.
Instructions
- The beat competition starts on Instagram, and the five best beats will be announced.
- Interested record producers must submit their entries on Instagram by creating a clear one-minute video vibing to their best Afrobeats/Afropop beats at a tempo of 100bpm to 118bpm. The producer’s face must be visible for all to see and the sound on the video must be great.
- The record producer must follow @akinyemilaw and use the hashtags #AkinyemiLawSongChallenge and #AkinyemilawBeatsAndHooks in their entry.
- Interested songwriters will then download the selected five beats from a given website link. Thereafter, they must record and publish a one-minute video singing an original chorus/hook and a verse.
- The best five song entries will be selected by producer Magic Sticks Beat on 21 July.
- In a carousel post on Instagram, followers of the #AkinyemiLawSongChallenge will then vote for the best two entries in the comments section.
- The two songwriters with the highest votes will win ₦100 000. The beats used by the two winning songwriters will also fetch the record producers ₦100 000.
- The cash prize has to be won by two songwriters and two record producers.
- The finalists selected will attend a free legal consultation with Akinyemi Ayinoluwa on copyright for creators of music.
Individuals who want to support the #AkinyemiLawSongChallenge should send a direct message to @akinyemilaw via Instagram.
