SA: Black Motion remix Karmacoda’s Time for 6 March release
South African Afro-house duo Black Motion are set to release a remix of San Francisco-based duo Karmacoda’s track ‘Time’ on 6 March via Sola Musa Music.
Black Motion.
The remix follows a previously released version by Prince Kaybee.
Formed in 2010, Black Motion now consists of founder Thabo Mabogwane and Kabelo “Problem Child Ten83” Koma. The group is known for its percussion-driven Afro House productions and has achieved multiple South African Music Awards, including Best Duo/Group and Best Dance Album. Their projects have received Gold and Platinum certifications, and the duo has performed on platforms such as NPR’s Tiny Desk series.
Karmacoda, a genre-crossing duo with a career spanning two decades, blends electronica, trip-hop, R&B, ballads, and dream pop. Their 2022 LP Lessons in Time features the track Time, performed by Jessica Ford (vocals), Brett Crockett (vocals/producer), and Eric Matsuno (bass/multi-instrumentalist). The song, characterised by autotuned vocals, piano chords, a steady shaker, and melodic layers, explores themes of regret and introspection.
Black Motion’s remix retains the emotional content of the original while adapting it into an Afro House format. The track features a steady, kinetic beat layered with hypnotic arpeggios and rhythmic textures. Commenting on the project, the duo said:
“The ‘Time’ remix was born from a conversation with the ancestors, a reminder that time is not just counted, it is felt in the drum and carried in the spirit. We approached it as a ritual in sound, where rhythm becomes memory and melody becomes prayer. It is our offering to the eternal pulse that guides us beyond the clock.”
