SoundCloud features Ghana’s GuiltyBeatz
GuiltyBeatz, the Ghanaian DJ and producer best known for his collaborations with Mr Eazi and more recently Beyoncé on the The Lion King: The Gift, has been named among SoundCloud’s Artists and DJs to Watch for the month of June.
The talented creative joins five other first-rate musicians from around the globe, including WizTheMC (Germany), Lorraine James (UK), Dot Cromwell (US), Jasmine Infiniti (US) and Sippin’ T (UK).
Born Ronald Banful in Palermo, Italy, GuityBeatz has become a sought-after name on the continent, collaborating with big names including fellow Ghanaians Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, R2Bees, Kwesi Arthur and Joey B, Nigeria’s Jesse Jagz, Wizkid and Wande Coal, Angola's Cabo Snoop, and British rapper Headie One.
SoundCloud says the monthly Artists and DJs to Watch series was reintroduced on the platform to highlight the efforts of creatives during the challenging times of the COVID-19 era. It describes the selected artists as “the next generation pushing for future change.”
“With all that’s happening in the world, it can be more challenging than ever to be an artist, particularly for people of colour and members of the LGBTQIA community. Yet, creatives not only persist, they continue to create and inspire future generations,” SoundCloud said.
GuiltyBeatz also gave advice to the next generation pushing for social change. “We are the generation that will bridge the gap. I truly believe in that. We need to educate ourselves on our history, politics, science. We need to connect ourselves in business, music, medicine etc. What we do now will impact our next generation. We must teach our next generation to love and respect regardless of colour or place of origin,” he said.
Apart from scoring three production credits on Beyoncé’s latest album – namely ‘Already,’ ‘Keys to the Kingdom', and ‘Find Your Way Back’ – the 30-year-old GuiltyBeatz is also the author of the 2018 dance anthem ‘Akwaaba’ and the 2020 EP Different.
