Bio

Born Michael Kwesi Owusu Addo and raised in Tema, Sarkodie is a Ghanaian rapper who began his career in 2008 after turning down a job offer from an advertising company. In 2010, he had several collaborations and earned numerous accolades and nominations, including 5 major awards at the 2010 Ghana Music Awards for his debut album, 'Makye', as well as other international awards and a nomination for the 2010 MTV Africa Music Awards.

His 2012 album 'Rapperholic' earned 12 nominations in the 2012 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. Sarkodie was crowned Artist of the Year and Best Rapper for the second time, as well as winning Song of the Year for his hit 'You Go Kill Me'. The album also earned Sarkodie the 2012 BET Award for Best International Act: Africa, for which he was nominated again in 2014 for his third album, 'Sarkology'. He has toured the US and UK and established himself as one of Africa's most successful hip-hop artists. He is considered one of the major proponents of the Azonto genre and dance.
