Amapiano artist Omit ST has released a new album titled Born Great, a project that signals what he describes as a defining stage in his musical development.
Omit ST.
The album positions the artist within the evolving amapiano genre, combining layered production, log drum-driven rhythms and collaborative features across its tracklist. It follows a growing body of work that has established Omit ST within South Africa’s contemporary dance music scene.
Central to the project is the track ‘Mina’, featuring Jayyjay and Murumba Pitch. The song is built around subdued, melodic production and vocal-led arrangements.
Omit ST said the track reflects the emotional direction of the album.
“Mina stands as a statement of feeling, of presence, of arrival,” he said.
The album includes contributions from a range of artists, including Kelvin Momo, MaWhoo, Nvcho, Sia Mzizi and Soa Mattrix. Each collaborator brings distinct stylistic elements, contributing to what the artist describes as a layered and intentional project.
Across its tracks, Born Great maintains a consistent focus on mood-driven production, blending elements associated with amapiano’s evolving sound while incorporating more atmospheric and reflective textures. The album is structured around both dancefloor-oriented tracks and slower, more introspective compositions.
According to the artist, the project reflects a period of artistic clarity and development, with emphasis on shaping rather than following current trends within the genre.
Born Great adds to a catalogue that continues to build Omit ST’s profile in South Africa’s amapiano landscape, which remains one of the country’s most commercially successful and widely exported music genres.
