YouTube hikes Premium and Music prices in US amid streaming “price creep”
YouTube has increased subscription prices for its Premium and Music services in the United States, becoming the latest major platform to raise fees amid ongoing inflationary pressure across the streaming industry.
YouTube CEO Neal Mohan.
The changes affect YouTube Premium, YouTube Music, and YouTube Premium Lite plans, with increases ranging between $1 and $4 depending on the tier and billing structure.
YouTube Premium’s individual plan has risen from $13.99 to $15.99 per month, while the family plan has increased from $22.99 to $26.99. YouTube Music’s individual subscription has moved from $10.99 to $11.99, and its family plan from $16.99 to $18.99.
YouTube Premium Lite, which offers ad-free video viewing without music access or offline downloads, has also increased from $7.99 to $8.99 per month.
New subscribers are being charged the revised rates immediately, while existing users will see changes reflected from their next billing cycle starting in June.
“We’re updating the price for YouTube Premium plans in the U.S. for the first time since 2023 to continue delivering a high-quality experience that supports creators and artists on YouTube,” YouTube said. “This change allows us to maintain the features our members value most: ad-free viewing, background play, and a massive library of 300M+ tracks on YouTube Music.”
YouTube’s move comes amid wider price increases across the streaming sector. Spotify raised subscription fees in the US earlier this year, while platforms including Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max and Peacock implemented increases in 2025. Netflix also adjusted its pricing recently, with Amazon’s Prime Video and Paramount+ among other services to have followed similar strategies.
The trend, often referred to as “streamflation”, has drawn criticism from users on social media platforms such as Reddit, where some subscribers have said they are considering cancelling their memberships in response to rising costs.
