Open call: Fête de la Musique Joburg 2026 performers
The French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) has opened applications for artists to perform at the 2026 edition of Fête de la Musique Joburg, a free annual music and cultural festival.
The deadline for applications is 14 April.
The event, which promotes live music in public spaces, will take place across three South African cities, beginning in Cape Town, followed by Pretoria on 13 June, and concluding in Johannesburg on 20 June at Victoria Yards.
Originally launched in France in 1982, Fête de la Musique is now celebrated in more than 100 countries. The Johannesburg edition, introduced about 15 years ago, features a mix of emerging and established artists across various musical genres.
Open call details
IFAS is inviting applications from:
- Musicians and bands
- DJs
- Poets
Selected artists will have the opportunity to perform at the festival and engage with wider audiences as part of the international programme.
Key requirements
Applicants must:
- Be available to perform live in Pretoria (13 June 2026) and Johannesburg (20 June 2026)
- Present a 45-minute live set
- Demonstrate the ability to engage a public audience
- Attend compulsory professional workshops in Johannesburg on 18 and 19 June 2026

- Applications open: 12 March 2026
- Deadline: 14 April 2026, or earlier if 300 applications are received
- Submission: Complete the application form and send supporting material via WeTransfer to fetedelamusiquejoburg@gmail.com
- Incomplete applications will not be considered
- Only successful applicants will be contacted
Selection and fees
- Two artists or bands will be selected to perform in Pretoria
- All selected applicants will perform in Johannesburg
Artist fees
- Bands: R6 000
- DJs: R4 000
- Poets: R1 000
