Kenya: KECOBO seeks public input on proposed Copyright Bill 2026
The Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO) has invited the public, creators, copyright owners, and users of copyrighted works to submit feedback on the Proposed Copyright and Related Rights Bill, 2026.
KECOBO chairperson Joshua Kutuny.
In a notice issued on 10 March under the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, KECOBO said the draft legislation aims to strengthen Kenya’s copyright framework, protect intellectual property rights, and support the growth of the country’s creative industry.
“The Kenya Copyright Board invites members of the public, stakeholders, creators, copyright owners, users of copyright works, and all interested parties to submit written memoranda, views, and comments on the Proposed Copyright and Related Rights Bill, 2026,” the notice stated.
The board said the draft Bill is available for public review and can be downloaded from its official website. Submissions should clearly state the names, contact details, and, where relevant, the organisations of those providing feedback. Contributors are encouraged to specify sections of the Bill they wish to amend and provide reasons for their suggestions.
All memoranda must be received by 31 March 2026. Submissions can be sent by email to feedback@copyright.go.ke or delivered physically to the Acting Executive Director at KECOBO offices, SHA Building, 5th Floor, Ragati Road, Upper Hill, Nairobi.
KECOBO said the consultation forms part of wider government efforts to modernise legal frameworks supporting the creative economy, in line with Kenya’s Vision 2030 development blueprint.
