SA: Sun-EL Musician shares fourth studio album Under the Sun
South African producer and DJ Sun-EL Musician has released his fourth studio album, Under the Sun, marking his latest project in a career that has spanned more than a decade in the country’s house music scene.
Sun-EL Musician, regarded as one of the leading figures in contemporary African dance music, has accumulated more than half a billion streams across his catalogue and achieved multi-platinum sales. His work has included collaborations with a range of established and emerging artists, contributing to the growth of Afro-house and related genres both locally and internationally.
According to the artist, Under the Sun was developed over an extended period, allowing for writing and refinement without strict time constraints. The album blends elements of soulful house, Afro-electronic production and organic instrumentation. Its themes include personal growth, healing, love and self-reflection.
The project features collaborations with several long-standing creative partners, including Msaki, Ami Faku, Mthunzi and Mici. Additional contributors include producers Zakes Bantwini, Chronical Deep, Jordan Arts, Thakzin, Heavy-K and Mpho.wav, the latter of whom began his career under Sun-EL Musician’s mentorship.
Among the tracks on the album are ‘Umlayezo’ featuring Ami Faku and Mthunzi, ‘Monna Hela’ with Chronical Deep, Simmy and Tefo Foxx, ‘Nguwe’ with Msaki, and ‘Love is Love’ featuring Deborah Cox.
The focus track, ‘I’ll Be There For You’, features Manana and centres on themes of loyalty and emotional support. Sun-EL Musician said of the song: “This song is about showing up, fully and truthfully. It’s about reminding someone that no matter how tough the road becomes, they are never alone. That promise is powerful, and I wanted the music to carry that feeling.”
The album’s release comes at a time when South African dance music continues to gain international visibility. Sun-EL Musician has maintained an active touring schedule, performing at major festivals and events locally and abroad.
He is scheduled to perform at Kunye Johannesburg on 7 March, Corona Sunsets Festival in Cape Town on 21 March, Ultra South Africa in Johannesburg on 15 April, and Ultra South Africa in Cape Town on 26 April. Additional tour dates are expected to be announced.
