Wizkid and Asake release new collaborative single Jogodo
Wizkid and Asake.
The track, released on 16 January, blends Afrobeats with prominent percussion and brass elements. Sung primarily in Nigerian Pidgin, ‘Jogodo’ centres on the idea of intoxication or being under the influence, a theme reflected in both its lyrics and relaxed, rhythmic production. Wizkid and Asake alternate verses, combining their distinct vocal styles in a measured exchange.
Speaking about the collaboration, Wizkid said: “Working on this record with Asake came naturally. We speak the same musical language.”
Asake described the partnership as rooted in personal connection. “When Wizkid and I collaborate, it feels special because it’s coming from a real place of friendship, mutual respect, and love for our culture,” he said.
The release follows the success of the pair’s earlier collaboration, ‘MMS’, which received a Grammy nomination and gained widespread attention online. REAL, Vol. 1 is positioned as a follow-up to that track, though further details about the EP’s release date have not yet been announced.
‘Jogodo’ is Asake’s first release since his Red Bull Symphonic performance in the United States, where he became the first African artist to headline the series. The concert, held at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, featured guest appearances including Wizkid, Central Cee, Fridayy, Gunna and Tiakola.
Both artists are regarded as leading figures in the global rise of Afrobeats. Their work has contributed to the genre’s increased visibility on international charts and platforms, as well as its growing influence in mainstream popular culture.
‘Jogodo’ is now available on major streaming platforms.
