Tofa Jaxx

Tofa Jaxx (Christopher Dominic Kihwele) is a Tanzanian singer-songwriter, performer, and sonic architect redefining the boundaries of contemporary African music. Hailing from Dar es Salaam, he has carved out a distinct identity as a genre-blending artist, seamlessly fusing Afro Soul, R&B, Neo Soul, and Bongo Flava into a sound he simply defines as “Fusion” a forward-facing approach that bridges cultures, languages, and musical traditions.

Singing in both English and Kiswahili, Tofa crafts music that is as emotionally resonant as it is sonically rich. His Kiswahili work draws deeply from traditional Swahili melodies and textures, while his global influences bring a modern, genre-fluid edge. The result is a unique sonic signature that feels both rooted and expansive, intimate yet universal.

Tofa’s journey has been marked by bold decisions and defining moments. From placing fourth in the international Airtel Trace Star competition to leaving college to pursue music full-time, he quickly emerged as one of Tanzania’s most compelling new voices. Early milestones included opening for Grammy Award-winning artist Joss Stone during her Total World Tour in Zanzibar and performing at the Zanzibar International Film Festival, establishing his presence as a rising force in the region.

Over the years, Tofa has expanded his artistry beyond recording into live performance and scoring. He has toured extensively across Africa and Europe, performing in countries such as Kenya, Mozambique, South Africa, and across multiple European cities, building a reputation as a captivating live performer with a magnetic, soul-stirring presence.

His catalog reflects both artistic depth and social consciousness. His single “Restart” reached number one on Namibia radio charts for three consecutive weeks and was tied to an HIV/AIDS awareness campaign that raised funds for research in Tanzania. His work in film includes standout contributions such as “Mozizi,” the powerful soundtrack for the award-winning animated film produced by Kijiweni Productions, further cementing his versatility as a songwriter and composer.

In 2025, Tofa reached a new career milestone when he represented Tanzania at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), performing at the opening ceremony of the fan zone festivities, an achievement that positioned him on one of Africa’s biggest stages.

That same year marked a transformative chapter in his musical journey. With the support of two fundraising concerts in Crans VD, Switzerland, curated by Evelyn Beck-Middleton. Tofa completed the production of his forthcoming album in Dakar, Senegal, at the renowned Laboutique Studio. This project represents his most refined and intentional body of work to date: a full realization of his Fusion sound and artistic vision.

Now in 2026, Tofa Jaxx stands at the cusp of a defining era. With his debut album set for release and the first single dropping in April, he continues to push boundaries, blending cultures and sounds into a musical language that speaks across borders.
