Call for scores: 2020 LunART Festival in the US
Female composers of all nationalities are invited to submit scores for the 2020 edition of LunART Festival in Wisconsin, US.
Launched in 2018, the festival seeks to support, inspire, promote and celebrate women in the arts through public performances, exhibitions, workshops and interdisciplinary collaboration thus creating space for learning and experimentation.
“We welcome participation by people who self-identify as women, cultivating a positive experience for artists and audiences alike,” LunART Festival said.
“The driving idea of the festival is to create a vibrant, safe space for all women where creativity is the queen! The vision of LunART Festival is to empower women in the arts by fostering originality, honouring diversity and strengthening equality.”
Applications can be made here and the deadline is 1 February.
Eligibility
The competition is open to composers of all nationalities, with no age limit.
The composition must:
- Be under 15 minutes in length.
- Be a single or multi-movement work. In the case of multi-movement works, LunART reserves the right to play selections.
- Be scored for one to six performers.
- Have been written no earlier than 1 January 2015.
Applicants may submit multiple scores but must complete a separate application for each submission. The application fee is $20.
Requirements
- Score in PDF format (please upload a PDF with the file name formatted as: lastname_compositiontitle.pdf)
- Recording of submitted work.
- URL link, i.e. Sound Cloud or YouTube (MIDI, MP3 or video)
- Bio (100 words max).
- Program notes.
- A video recording of the applicant performing must be submitted; acceptance as a performer is at the discretion of the festival.

- String quartet
- Violin
- Viola
- Cello
- Bass
- Harp
Woodwinds
- Wind quintet
- Saxophone quartet
- Flute (piccolo, alto, bass)
- Clarinet (bass, E-flat)
- Oboe (English horn, d'amore)
- Bassoon
- Saxophone (soprano, alto, tenor, baritone)
Brass
- Brass quintet
- Trumpet
- French horn
- Euphonium
- Trombone
- Tuba
Voice
- Any voice type, as a solo vocal part or a member of an ensemble.
Piano
- If your work includes prepared piano, please contact us before submitting it.
Percussion
- If your work includes percussion, please contact us about intended instrumentation. Percussion instruments available for the festival are limited.
Prize
The selected composers will receive:
- A cash prize of $200.
- A performance of their composition.
- Professional live audio and video recording of the composition.
If able to attend the festival, composers will receive:
- Free housing.
- Free entry into all festival events.
- Rehearsal with musicians.
