The National Ballet of Zimbabwe

Bio

The National Ballet of Zimbabwe is a member of the Dance Trust of Zimbabwe (DTZ) which is based in Harare. It was formed by teachers and run by a committee of volunteers. The name "National Ballet" was used because back then it was easy for the company to conduct nationwide tours. It was registered as a Welfare Organization in 1978.

The founding members were dancers, teachers and individuals interested in enhancing the cause and course of ballet in the country. It is a venue used by Dance Foundation Course (DFC) dancers during their training.
It has staged a number of shows over the years including its annual dance festival Starlight Dancing. It is registered as a Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) examination center and its facilities are used daily by many of Zimbabwe’s top dance studios and dancers including the Tumbuka Contemporary Dance Company, The Dance Foundation Course, The Outreach Project and the National Ballet dancers themselves.
