The track, released through Ziiki Media, marks the artist’s first official release built around the Three Step sound, a subgenre that has emerged from the broader amapiano movement.
‘Asambeni’ is also the first single from UDOTI UDEMEDi’s forthcoming album, expected later in June. According to the artist, another single will be released ahead of the album.
The song was written and recorded earlier this year following a five-day music camp organised by Ziiki Media in Hyde Park, Johannesburg between 23 and 27 February 2026. The camp brought together several emerging artists and producers, including Ice Cue and Snaka, to develop material for an upcoming compilation project.
“Asambeni is about going to the mountain and praying for power. It’s for everyone fighting for success who needs the path cleared so they can move forward,” he said.
The artist added that the song was developed collaboratively during the camp.
“We made this at Ziiki Media after starting it at the Sandton camp. It’s a song that everyone in the industry can relate to because we’re all chasing the same thing,” he said.
Built around rhythmic elements associated with the Three Step style, the single combines electronic production with vocal call-and-response sections. Production credits are shared by K-Zaka and Deestar.
Originally from Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal, UDOTI UDEMEDi has increasingly incorporated spiritual themes and reflections on personal ambition into his music.
Ziiki Media, which operates across parts of Africa and South Asia, provides distribution and label services to emerging and established artists. UDOTI UDEMEDi is among the artists currently receiving development support through the company.
The release of ‘Asambeni’ comes as the artist prepares to unveil further material ahead of his upcoming album.
