Open call: SAMRO 2026 Music Business Masterclass
The Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO), in partnership with the Academy of Sound Engineering, has opened applications for the 2026 intake of its Music Business Masterclass (MBM) programme.
Applications opened on 9 April 2026 and close on 30 April 2026.
The initiative targets SAMRO Full and Associate members in Gauteng and the Western Cape, with 30 fully funded bursaries available. The programme forms part of SAMRO’s corporate social investment (CSI) efforts aimed at strengthening skills in the music industry.
The eight-week course is designed to provide practical training in key areas of the music business, including:
- Structure and dynamics of the music ecosystem
- Copyright and intellectual property
- Royalties and revenue streams
- Contracts and legal considerations
- Financial management in the music industry
According to SAMRO, the programme uses case studies and applied learning to equip participants with tools to navigate a changing industry and make informed career decisions.
The organisation said the masterclass also supports efforts to promote inclusivity in the sector, with emphasis on empowering underrepresented groups, particularly women in music.
Eligibility criteria
- Applicants must be Full or Associate members of SAMRO
- Applicants must not have received CSI support in the past three years
- Application details are shared directly with eligible members via email
Bursary information
- 30 fully funded bursaries are available
- The programme runs over eight weeks
- Participation requires in-person attendance and full commitment
- Selection will be based on a competitive, merit-based process
- An independent panel of industry professionals will assess applications
- The panel’s decision will be final
Applications opened on 9 April 2026 and close on 30 April 2026. Late submissions will not be considered. The programme start date will be communicated to successful applicants. The application link has been sent to all eligible full and associate members.
