YouTube expands creator tools with voice replies, shorts remix features
YouTube has announced a significant expansion of its creator tools, making its voice replies feature available to all creators and introducing new AI-powered editing options for Shorts. The updates aim to enhance engagement between creators and viewers while fostering innovative content creation.
YouTube CEO Neal Mohan.
The voice replies feature, first tested with select creators in December 2024, allows channel managers to respond to comments on their videos using voice recordings. YouTube confirmed that the tool is now accessible to all creators on both the main app and Studio Mobile for Android and iOS. “Creators can now record a voice reply to comments from the YouTube main app or Studio Mobile on Android and iOS,” the company said in a statement.
In addition, YouTube is testing a new AI-based remix tool for Shorts. The Remix option enables viewers to manipulate original clips using AI, with features such as “Add an object,” which inserts items or effects into a video, and “Reimagine,” which transforms frames from an original clip into entirely new content using suggested or custom prompts. Users can also upload two reference photos to guide the AI output. These tools build on the Extend with AI feature released in September 2025, which allowed viewers to generate alternative endings to videos using AI.
YouTube described the AI tools as a way to “give viewers tools to easily generate new clips based on Shorts from the creators they love,” highlighting the platform’s ongoing focus on enhancing engagement and driving creative trends within its ecosystem.
The platform has also updated its Premium Lite subscription. The more affordable tier now offers ad-free viewing, offline downloads, and background play for non-music content, while excluding the YouTube Music benefits available to full Premium subscribers.
These initiatives reflect YouTube’s continued investment in creator support and AI-driven content innovation, providing new avenues for interaction and content creation across its global user base.
