Tems’ Leading Vibe Initiative to host first activation in SA
The Leading Vibe Initiative (LVI), founded by two-time GRAMMY Award-winning artist Tems, is set to hold its first activation in Southern Africa, with an event scheduled to take place in South Africa on 21 March 2026.

The South African edition follows the initiative’s inaugural programme in Lagos in August 2025 and a subsequent expansion to Nairobi in September 2025. Launched in August 2025, LVI was established to address the underrepresentation of women in the music industry, particularly female artists, songwriters and producers, across Africa.
The Lagos edition brought together 20 emerging Nigerian female creatives for a two-day programme focused on creative development, mentorship and industry access. It included collaborative sessions and an opening dinner hosted by Tems. The Nairobi activation expanded the initiative’s reach in East Africa, offering masterclasses, studio collaborations and panel discussions, and concluded with a fireside conversation led by Tems on her career path and the initiative’s long-term goals.
“My goal with the Leading Vibe Initiative is to help support and amplify talented women who have the potential to redefine the industry,” Tems said. “By providing access, tools, and opportunity, we’re creating space for them to find their voices, step into their power, and shape the future of music across the continent and globally.”
According to organisers, the South African programme will be open to South Africa–based female artists, songwriters and producers aged between 18 and 35. The programme is expected to focus on songwriting and music production, the business and commercial aspects of music, mentorship and networking and creative workshops and masterclasses.
Industry professionals will facilitate the sessions, with music production technology support provided by Native Instruments. Speakers and facilitators are expected to be announced closer to the event date. Applications are scheduled to close on 28 February 2026.
The initiative continues to receive backing from industry partners, including Hennessy, which has returned as an official partner alongside Native Instruments.
“We’re honoured to support the Leading Vibe Initiative and to continue empowering African communities and cultures,” said Vincent Montalescot, Hennessy’s Global chief marketing officer. “Tems’ vision, talent, and purpose align deeply with Hennessy’s legacy of championing those who push boundaries and redefine the world around them.”
LVI organisers have indicated that the South African activation forms part of the initiative’s broader ambition to scale its impact beyond the continent and contribute to long-term structural change within the global music industry.
