AFRIMA 2026: All the winners
Nigerian musicians recorded a strong showing at the ninth All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), which concluded in Lagos on 11 January, securing several of the ceremony’s most prominent awards.
Rema emerged as the most decorated artist of the night, taking home three awards.
Burna Boy won Album of the Year for No Sign of Weakness, adding another major accolade to his career. He also shared the Best African Collaboration award with fellow Nigerian artist Shallipopi. Shallipopi was separately named Song of the Year for his single ‘Laho’, which gained wide attention across social media platforms.
The week-long event brought together artists and industry professionals from across the continent and the diaspora, with winners selected by a jury of music experts. The final ceremony highlighted Nigeria’s continued influence on the African music landscape.
Rema emerged as the most decorated artist of the night, taking home three awards: Artist of the Year, Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, and Best African Artiste in R&B and Soul.
Other Nigerian winners included Yemi Alade, who received Best Soundtrack in a Movie, Series or Documentary for ‘You Are’ from the animated series ‘Iyanu’. Veteran rapper Phyno was named Best African Artiste in African Hip Hop.
The awards also recognised emerging talent. Qing Madi won Most Promising Artiste of the Year, while Chella was named African Fans’ Favourite.
Despite the dominance of Nigerian artists, performers from other parts of the continent were also honoured. Senegalese songwriter Bakhaw Dioum won Songwriter of the Year, while Algerian DJ Moh Green received DJ of the Year, ahead of several South African nominees. Ghana’s Wendy Shay was named Best Female Artiste in Western Africa, South Africa’s Nontokozo Mkhize won Best Female Artiste in Southern Africa, and Tanzania’s Juma Jux claimed Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa.
The results reflected the continued global reach of Afrobeats, a genre blending African rhythms with international influences. Burna Boy, widely regarded as one of the genre’s leading figures, remains among its most visible representatives, with his latest album award reinforcing his standing on the continental and international stage.
