The Dominica Bouyon-inspired track was produced by internationally acclaimed producer BRGZ, known for his work with Central Cee, Davido, and Omah Lay. ‘Backie’ fuses rapid-fire percussion and bass-heavy grooves with MOLIY’s signature ethereal vocals. The song draws from Caribbean club culture, adding to the artist’s growing catalogue of high-energy Afropop records.
“‘Backie’ is my hype-girl anthem: fast, fun, and full of Bouyon energy,” MOLIY said. “It’s that moment you’re breaking your back on the dance floor with your girls hyping you up and everyone is feeling themselves.”
The release follows a landmark year for MOLIY, who achieved global recognition with her viral hit ‘Shake It To The Max (FLY) – Remix’. The track was the fifth most Shazamed song worldwide in 2025, topped Billboard’s US Afrobeats Songs Chart, and featured on year-end lists by The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, and Complex. MOLIY also performed at major events including the MTV Video Music Awards, BET Awards, and Wireless Festival in London, and was named Hitmaker of the Year at Billboard Africa’s inaugural African Power Players event in Johannesburg.
‘Backie’ continues MOLIY’s streak of successful releases, following her collaborative track ‘Body Go’ with South African popstar Tyla. The single blends Afrobeats, R&B, Pop, and Amapiano, offering an empowering anthem for fans.
MOLIY has built a global presence through her distinctive sound that fuses Afropop, R&B, and dancehall. Her collaborations with artists including Sean Paul, Chloë Bailey, SadBoi, and Tyla have helped bring African-rooted music into the international mainstream.
The VEVO performance for ‘Backie’ highlights MOLIY’s dynamic stage presence, further solidifying her reputation as one of Afropop’s most exciting voices.
