Apple Music has announced South African indie artist Trillion Petals as the latest act to be featured in its Up Next artist development programme.

Trillion Petals is the solo project of Alison Rachel, best known as the lead singer of Cape Town-based indie-pop band Honeymoon. Her debut EP, Hill After Pale Hill, was recently released and includes five tracks.
The record features the single ‘Lucky Girl Mantra’, produced by UK-based artist Sfven. The track explores themes of confidence and self-doubt and sets the tone for the EP’s mix of acoustic elements and indie-rock anthems.
“I’m thrilled to be chosen for Up Next South Africa,” Rachel said. “This new project is really close to my heart and I feel so lucky that I get to create art I care about and share it with the world.”
Rachel wrote the songs on guitar before developing them with collaborators including Nic van Reenen (Ex Olympic) and Radio Trapani. She said she plans to release more music under the Trillion Petals name in 2025.
As part of the programme, Trillion Petals will be featured on Apple Music’s Up Next playlist, which highlights new and emerging artists from around the world.
