
Muziki Africa to tackle music industry issues at FAME Week 2025
Muziki Africa will take place during FAME Week in Cape Town from 2 to 3 September 2025. The event will bring together artists, producers, publishers and industry stakeholders to discuss current trends, challenges and opportunities in the African music sector.

This year’s programme includes panel discussions with figures such as Msaki, Danilo Acquisto, Osman Mkhondo, Thando Nyameni, Cannon Kent and Martin Myers. Topics range from music rights and royalties to financial models, industry ecosystems and the intersection of music with film and television.
The South African Music Performance Rights Association (SAMPRA) is sponsoring the event. Its CEO, Pfanani Lishivha, said: “As Africa’s screen industries expand, so too does the need to ensure that composers, performers and producers are properly credited and rewarded. FAME Week is a powerful platform to connect creators with the opportunities, networks and rights knowledge that will allow our continent’s music to travel far and wide.”
Downtown Music Publishing Africa (DMPA) has also joined as a partner. The company represents composers such as Brendan Jury, Philip Miller and Eric Musyoka. Managing director Thando Makhunga, who also chairs the Music Publishers Association of South Africa (MPASA), said: “We see the immense potential for African musicians and artists to enhance the storytelling process by connecting with producers and directors from across the world.”
KwaZulu-Natal United Music Industry Association (KUMISA) is also a partner. Its managing director, Thando Nyameni, said: “At KUMISA, we believe the music industry’s true potential lies in unlocking both its cultural richness and commercial value. We look forward to engaging with industry peers, exploring new opportunities, and amplifying KZN’s vibrant creative voice on the world stage.”
Among the panels on the programme are Show Me the Money, Beyond the Stage, From Atlanta to Africa, Next Up, The Power of Collectives, The Truth About Music Rights in Film & Television, Streaming Signals and Own Your Sound,
In addition to panel discussions, Muziki Africa will feature a Sync Hub, content sessions, showcases and networking opportunities. The event forms part of FAME Week Africa, which also includes activities focused on film, television, fashion and other creative industries.
