Xolly Mncwango earns multiple music sales awards at Durban ICC
South African gospel singer Xolly Mncwango has received several music sales certifications during her Unusual Encounter concerts at the Durban International Convention Centre on 2 and 3 August.
Kentridge Tlale, Xolly Mncwango and Tebogo Seema.
The back-to-back sold-out shows, held in her home province of KwaZulu-Natal, were marked by the presentation of plaques recognising the commercial success of some of her most popular songs.
The certifications include platinum awards for ‘Ungukuphila’, ‘Ngiyamazi Umhlengi Wami’, ‘Jabula Sesingabantwana’ and ‘Umuhle Baba’, a double platinum award for ‘Yebo Nkosi’, and gold awards for ‘Thank You’ and ‘Nkosi Bhek Ibandla Lakho’.
The recognition follows the release of Unusual Encounter, an expanded edition of her 2024 album featuring new live-recorded tracks. The concerts also made history as Mncwango became one of the few gospel artists to stage consecutive performances at the Durban ICC, with the first night selling out within hours of announcement.
Mncwango’s career has been marked by consistent commercial and critical success, including Metro FM Music Award wins and multiple gold and platinum records. Her music continues to find wide appeal across church congregations, radio, streaming platforms and live audiences.
Her latest release, The Unusual Deluxe, is an extended version of her 2024 studio album Unusual. It features all 21 original tracks along with five additional live recordings captured during her 2024 performance at Carnival City.
