Tanzania: Mzungu Kichaa drops new single ahead of 2026 European tour
Dar es Salaam-based Danish musician Mzungu Kichaa, known offstage as Espen Sørensen, has released his latest single ‘Washa Moto’, via Caravan Records, with support from Whistling Thorn Publishing.

The new track follows the success of his previous albums Tuliza Moyo, Fundi Bomba, and Loko Loko, which have garnered him a loyal following across Africa and Europe. With ‘Washa Moto’, Kichaa offers an uplifting, feel-good anthem centred on joy, celebration, and letting go of stress.
“‘Washa Moto’ is about good times, spending money, and taking it easy — because money comes, money goes,” Kichaa said in a press statement.
The song was recorded and produced by Daxo Chali at MJ Records in Mikocheni, Dar es Salaam. It blends English and Swahili, a hybrid linguistic style often referred to as Swanglish or tema yai (spitting eggs).
“The mood and impromptu lyric writing led me to sing most of the song in English, blended with Swahili, a linguistic fusion some call Swanglish or tema yai,” Kichaa said. “I’m proud to be part of this evolution, offering my own twist on the way Bongo Flava continues to grow and stretch beyond its roots.”
Comparing the new single to his earlier hit ‘Twende Kazi’, Kichaa added: “I feel like Washa Moto carries a similar vibe. It’s upbeat, it’s got vibes, and if it makes you feel like dancing — I’ve done my job.”
Kichaa also reflected on the growing international reach of Tanzanian music, saying: “It’s a true honour seeing Tanzanian artists making global waves. I’m humbled and grateful that there’s still space for my voice in a genre that has become so widely commercial and competitive.”
Looking ahead, Kichaa revealed that ‘Washa Moto ‘is one of several singles to be released from his upcoming album Bongo Bound, set to feature collaborations with top Tanzanian artists. “We’ll be sharing the story behind that name very soon, ahead of our 2026 European tour,” he said.
