Call for participation: National Eisteddfod SA adjudicators
The National Eisteddfod of South Africa is inviting educators around the country who are passionately involved in teaching music, dance, visual arts and drama to attend a one-day adjudicators’ seminar at Reddam House School Helderfontein in Johannesburg on 4 August
Selected adjudicators will visit different communities in the Limpopo, Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng provinces to select participants who will compete at the Top Achievers Galla in Johannesburg this November.
“In its quest for excellence in adjudication, the National Eisteddfod Academy (NEA) has established clear guidelines regarding the expected levels of performance and has defined a style of adjudication that acknowledges individual achievement and emphasises the joy of participation in the arts,” the organisers said.
“The purpose of this seminar is not to provide in-depth training in any of the art disciplines. The art of adjudication is not something that one can teach in one day. The theme of the 2018 seminar will be, Brand Alignment and the Pursuit of Awesome.”
NEA CEO Dr Francois van den Berg said: “Adjudication in the arts is not only an evaluation of a performance but also the art of sensing possibility.
"Adjudication deals with human beings and their feelings. An insensitive adjudicator can kill underlying potential and future interest in the arts.”
Participants are expected to pay R270 per person to cover the cost of the conference, including lunch and refreshments.
The project is funded by the National Lotteries Commission and designed to foster awareness and pride of South Africa's multicultural diversity.
