Ghana's Wanlov the Kubolor signs to Walboomers Music
Ghanaian musician and activist Wanlov the Kubolor has secured a management deal with Netherlands-based record label Walboomers Music.
According to the company, which confirmed the development on 15 August, the artist will use this opportunity to focus on new music projects and develop his creativity.
Founded in 1996, Walboomers Music quickly made a name for itself by promoting underrepresented genres like R&B, hip hop and Latin/Caribbean music, with early hits including Jamaican singer Sean Paul’s ‘Gimme The Light’. Known for its artist development and innovation, the label expanded into music publishing and management in 2007.
“Following his recent success in composing and producing a track selected for a high-profile Super Bowl commercial, Wanlov the Kubolor is set to continue his creative streak,” Walboomers said.
Born Emmanuel Owusu-Bonsu, Wanlov the Kubolor, is widely praised for his bold messages and eclectic fusions of Afrobeats, hiplife, and traditional music. He is behind solo albums including Green Card (2007), Yellow Card – Stomach Direction (2010), Brown Card – African Gypsy (2012) and Orange Card: Fruitopian Raps (2017).
He has also been involved in music projects like Alostmen and FOKN Bois and has also produced for popular acts such as Angel Maxine, Pilani Bubu and Sister Deborah.
Walboomers is home to other Ghanaian acts like Afro-fusion band FRA!, rapper O’Kenneth, dancehall singer OV, and all-woman live musical project MaaMi & The Lipstick Queens, as well as Nigerian Afrobeat artist Etuk Ubong, Afrobeats duo E.N.E Yatt, and smooth jazz and soul artist Onyeka Nwelue.
