Call for applications: Performance and workshop in Switzerland
Live digital music forum Show-me is calling on African artists to apply to showcase at Moods Club in Zurich, Switzerland, on 20 and 21 October. The participants will also take part in a music writing workshop directed by Cameroonian artist Blick Bassy, music consultant Eric Vandepoorter and supervised by a professional sound engineer at the same venue on 22 and 23 October.
The organisers are looking for 12 finalists who will be selected by a jury of programmers from European and African festivals including Cully Jazz Festival (Switzerland), Le Rocher de Palmer (France), Musiques métisses (France), Musiques en Été (Switzerland), Visa For Music, (Morocco) Focus Wales (UK), Les Suds à Arles (France), Festival Clandestino (Sweden), Great Escape (UK), Jazz à Ouaga (Burkina Faso), the National Arts Festival (South Africa), Roskilde Festival (Denmark) and Alice (Denmark) .

The deadline for applications is 25 May.
All the events will be filmed live on the Show-me social media platforms. At the end of the performances, each programmer and members of the Show-me jury will choose one or more participants who will take part in the next edition of the event.
Application requirements
- Participants must be over 18 years.
- Participants will perform as solo or duo (current music, jazz, world music, contemporary music, improvised music, urban music).
- Participants must have a self-developed career, without a booking or management agent.
- Participants must have at least two years of live concert experience.
- Participants must have released an album or EP.
- Participants must send us a video of themselves playing live (15 minutes minimum – videos can be self-filmed with your smartphone).
What happens if you get nominated by the Show-me jury?
Successful applicants will:
- Perform at the Moods Club in Zurich on 20 and 21 October.
- Receive €320 ($380) per musician.
- Get private accommodation and per diem.
- Be seen not only by the Zurich public and programmers in the room but also by their colleagues (programmers, booking agents, etc) around the world.
- Note that transport will not be covered.
Why take part?
- Discover some of the best DIY artists around.
- Identify new tools (applications, Internet platforms, etc).
- Liaise with the protagonists of this music scene who are working towards fairer pay.
- Make direct contact with musicians and the audience.
The recordings will be sent to publishers and will be promoted through a partnership with digital distributor Idol. Artists will receive 100 physical copies of these recordings so that they can distribute them at their forthcoming concerts.
