Adelle Nqeto

Bio

Adelle Nqeto is a South African born singer/songwriter.
Her journey in the music industry began with the duo Flint, meet Spark, a collaboration between two friends making music. Between 2012-2015 the duo played in South Africa’s largest festivals- Oppikoppi, Rocking the Daisies, Splashy Fen, including a trip to Zambia in 2013 with Greenpop. Flint, meet Spark went on to record their first and final EP titled- “The Way I remember You”. The band disbanded in 2015, and with a growing pile of previously unreleased material, Adelle decided to embark on a solo musical journey. This culminated in Adelle’s first release, an EP titled “Lights”, which was launched in 2017.
She went on to organise an independent tour through Europe in summer of 2018- including shows in Germany (Berlin, Leipzig), The Netherlands (Amsterdam, Leiden, Scheveningen), Belgium, and France (Paris). This included a host of House concerts- intimate performances/ gatherings in people’s houses in Amsterdam, Hamburg, Berlin.

In 2018, Adelle was awarded a residency hosted by the Goethe Institute in Berlin, to be part of the Goethe Talents- 10 musicians from the “Global South” to be part of a 10 day residency making music as well as learning the musical landscape that exists in Berlin. Deciding to then make the move to Berlin in early 2019, Adelle released her second EP, an homage to South Africa titled- Home in 2019, with a sold out release at the independent cinema Bioscope, in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Her move to Berlin, Germany led to various shows in Germany, as well as a 3 week solo tour in Italy in the autumn of 2019.
Adelle has since taken an interest in film, recording the music for a documentary by Brazilian director Thais Nepomuceno called ‘Heirderos’ during lockdown in 2020, and working with music for movies, and contemporary dancers (including taking part in Dirty Debut: with dancer Djibril Sall in 2020).
Her growing interest in music for screen led to her working as a top liner and writer alongside producers for audio production companies based in Berlin (Audioforce and Track and Fields), as well as beginning to produce her own tracks at home, which includes a commissioned piece by renown artist Otobong Nkanga for her Iko Podcast, part of Belgium’s Kunstenfestivaldesarts in 2020.
Her songs- ‘Lights’ and ‘Need Someone’ have each been featured on South African series’ The Girl from St. Agnes, and in the film Meisies wat Fluit.

In 2022, she opened for Alice Phoebe Lou at a sold out concert in Funkhaus, Berlin, and
opened for South African jazz musician, Thandi Ntuli in Sophiatown, Johannesburg, 2023. She has been signed to SONY ATV Publishing since 2019.
