Call for submissions: International online piano competition
Submissions are ongoing for the 2021 Montecatini International Piano Competition, which will take place from 27 November to 20 December.
The online contest is organised by the Tokyo International Piano Association, in partnership with Steinway & Sons, Karma Sound Studios, Pianist Magazine and Schott Music, and looks to support outstanding young musicians by recognising their full potential.
“We share a joint vision dedicated to cultivating talented artists, building digital innovation and creating a music festival community, attracting large, diverse audiences, music lovers and artists from around the world,” the organisers said.
Eligibility
Category: Junior
- A: 6 to 9 years old.
- B: 10 to 13 years old.
- C: 14 to 17 years old.
Category: Senior
- 18 to 36 years old.
Prizes
- The competition will offer winners a £20 000 (about $27 700) prize package, which include a recording contract and media promotion to advance their careers.
- A scholarship to join the masterclasses, workshops and concerts at the festivals held in Italy, Serbia or Japan during the 2022-2023 season.
- The winner of each junior category and the first, second and third prize winner from the senior category will receive a performance engagement at the Montecatini Piano Festival in Italy, Music Festival Serbia Belgrade Classics at Kolarac Hall in Serbia and at Steinway Hall in Tokyo during the 2022-2023 season.
How to apply
- Applicants must provide their biographical information as well as information about their musical background and appropriate references.
- Applicants must provide a link to a competition entry video ( (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) of up to 15 minutes for the Junior category A and B, 20 minutes for the Junior category C and 30 minutes for the Senior category, showing a variety of repertoire from J S Bach to the 21st Century
- The video(s) must be unedited, but do not have to be from a concert performance.
- The video(s) must have been shot no earlier than 27 November 2020.
- Applicants must include only complete movements or complete works (no excerpts). Concerti and chamber music are not accepted in this competition, and the works must have been published.
