Call for scores: Young choral composers competition in Russia
The Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory is inviting composers around the world to submit scores for the fourth International Alexander Kastalsky Young Choral Composers Competition.
The competition is in partnership with the Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatory, Saratov State Conservatory, Victor Popov Academy of Choral Art, and Gnesins Russian Academy of Music. It is open to choral students and graduates under the age of 30.
The competition will be held online and based at the premises of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory.
No entry fee is required and interested composers should submit scores in any of the following categories:
- Original composition for choir or a cappella.
- Folk song arrangement for choir.
- Arrangement for mixed choir.
- Arrangement for vocal ensemble.
- Sacred choral music
The applicant may apply for all five categories, but with different works. The duration of any piece should not exceed seven minutes.
Who can submit?
- Students of music universities, colleges and secondary specialist institutions.
- Postgraduate students, assistant trainees, young teachers and graduates of music institutions of higher education under the age of 30.
Prizes
- The winners will be awarded with diplomas of laureates. The prize money will be posted on the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory in due course.
- Scores that receive the highest marks from the jury will be performed by a joint choir of the educational institutions at a gala concert in autumn 2021 at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. The gala will be conducted by laureates and prize winners of the competition.
Applicants should submit an application with the following information:
- Name and surname.
- Date of birth.
- Place of study, course year.
- Specialisation.
- Full postal address, phone number (country and city code) and email.
- Full name of teacher and phone number.
- The title of work and the category you apply for.
Participants should:
- Prepare scores in PDF format, using computer notation like Finale or Sibelius.
- Not put the name of the applicant on scores.
- Send audio files (MIDI or MP3).
