SA: Apple Music shines spotlight on Valerie Omari in April
South Africa-based Congolese R&B singer Valerie Omari has been featured by Apple Music as part of the streaming platform's New Artist Spotlight series for the month of April.
The announcement follows the debut release of Omari’s Therefore I Am EP late last year. The seven-track EP is about love and heartbreaks. It features such songs as ‘Everything I Am’, ‘Chapter 19’, ‘Solace’ and ‘Goodtimes’.
“This is pretty amazing,” Valerie Omari said. “I feel absolutely honoured. I am so blessed to be able to add this to yet another milestone in my career. Being selected as Apple Music’s New Artist Spotlight recipient is an amazing accomplishment for me, especially being independent. I appreciate all the love towards my EP and I hope my music will bless and inspire everyone now more than ever.”
Omari released her critically acclaimed debut single ‘Just Like the Rain’ in 2018, which was followed by Therefore I Am. She credits the influence of Janet Jackson and Lauryn Hill on her music.
Besides music, Omari is a commercial model and athlete. In 2015, she was selected to represent South Africa in Florida at the International Arts Talent Show, which led to a glossy feature spread in Marie Claire the following year.
Previous South African artists who have been featured on Apple Music’s New Artist Spotlight platform include Honeymoan, Mthunzi, Sino Msolo, Shasha, Ami Faku, Sio, Elizée and Malachi, Sho Madjozi, Simmy, Dope Saint Jude, Darkie Fiction, Dutchkid, Emerger and Thandi Ntuli.
