Bio

Tavonga is a prominent afro-fusion artist who embodies the magic of traditional Southern
African cultures, blending jiti, house, and afro-jazz music. His musical journey began in 1995 in
Gokwe, Zimbabwe, where, from the age of 7, he played percussion for his school's dance
group. In 2008, his career took a pivotal turn in Capetown through his collaboration with
producers and other artists. After an educational return to Zimbabwe, he joined
the Rehab Ent label refining his love for House Music and working on the "Made In
Africa" album.

Moving to Canada marked a new chapter, with performances on
renowned international platforms. Beyond his music, Tavonga is a passionate advocate for
African identity, championing cultural expression and self-affirmation. Through his aspirations
to establish a production house dedicated to cultural and artistic innovation he has partnered up with a powerful story teller "Mariana Djelo Balde" to co-found MAD Be Happy, a Home for Artistic Diversity.

Tavonga MacOne, once known as Macone, is a living symbol of metamorphosis and
evolution. Just as a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly, Macone became Tavonga, an
avant-garde Afro-fusion artist. This transformation isn't merely aesthetic; it signifies the
artist's continuous growth, development, and adaptation.
His creative method is an intimate blend of connecting with oneself and the external world. In
his solitude, he channels his inner spirit and nature's inspiration. This gives rise to melodies,
harmonies, and lyrics that flood into him, sometimes even through dreams. Alternatively, he
also finds inspiration in pre-existing rhythms and beats, transforming them into original
compositions. In both instances, each piece is carefully reviewed, revised, and refined
before its official release.
The beating heart of his work is African culture. Drums resonate, not just as an instrument
but also as a vibrant representation of Africa. His lyrics, infused with personal and communal
stories, are a constant reminder: "Your identity is everything that makes you unique; it
deserves to be worn with pride."
Since 1995, his music has transformed, evolving from traditional folk songs to original
compositions, integrating international sounds. This evolution has been influenced by his
personal experiences, travels, and international artistic encounters.
The message he aims to convey is clear: the cultural richness of Africa and the importance
of anchoring oneself in one's roots. As he aptly puts it, "To know where you're going and who
you are, you must look at your roots."
In the future, Tavonga aspires to be Africa's cultural ambassador, highlighting the continent's
pride and wealth. He plans to establish a production house and academy dedicated to
culture, education, and promoting new talent. His goal: to be the most significant cultural
export from his region and positively influence others' lives.
