Sizwe Yaze
Bio
Thulasizwe “Sizwe” Yaze (born 9 June 1989 in East London and raised in Gqeberha) is a South African singer, bassist, composer, and producer whose sound is rooted in Afro, neo-soul, and jazz. Inspired by his Christian upbringing, he began singing, playing bass guitar, and arranging music for a cappella groups from a young age. He developed into a seasoned session musician and refined his performance as part of the Eastern Cape YouthChoir under the leadership of Rochelle Oelofse. He later came under the mentorship of acclaimed producer Lawrence Matshiza, which further shaped his musical direction and artistry.
While studying sound engineering and production at Cape Audio College, he joined the gospel a cappella group Selected Voices, contributing to the production of their debut projects. His strides have consistently leaned toward songwriting for other artists, including initiating and organizing one of the first Writer’s Indaba workshops in Gqeberha—creating a platform for collaboration and creative exchange among musicians. In 2015, he was selected as a finalist in Metro FM’s Castle Milk Stout Unplugged competition, where he collaborated with the award-winning band The Muffinz. His career later expanded internationally when he performed across Turkey, Greece, and Germany, gaining valuable industry exposure. He is the founder of Kandakul Concepts, an agency dedicated to creating opportunities for musicians to work internationally. He has also served on the Music Advisory Committee and as a Music Curator for the Mandela Bay Theatre Complex. Sizwe is currently working on releasing an audio songbook EP, with multiple volumes to follow, as he continues to
build his career as a songwriter and performing artist.
