Prodiiiiiii

Born on the 29th of May in 1991, Prince Seshigwana who's professionally known as Prodiiiiiii is a hip hop artist from South Africa. He was born in Botshabelo, Free State and raised in Winterveld where he is currently based.

Prodiiiiiii specializes in the Hip Hop subgenre of Motswako made popular by the likes of the late HHP, Khuli Chana and Cassper Nyovest. Prodiiiiiii's themes are centered around the state of township economics from the perspective of a young black man in his community.

Prodiiiiiii started his rap performance career busking trains in 2015 where he formed a duet with Thabiso Thabethe called TOES Band. They went on to perform at festivals like Fête De La Musique (2015 & 2016) and We Are One Music Festival (2018). During his time with TOES, Prodiiiiiii focused his energy on helping create open platforms for alternative musicians to showcase their works. This is how he found himself as a part of Black Labone, a weekly event that happens on Thursday's. Black Labone was established in July of 2017 by Izah Kutsh. Prodiiiiiii joined in September of the same year and has been working as a sound engineer (2017-2019), MC and performer since.

Musical projects

Ready to finally put his name on an EP title, Prodiiiiiii enlisted the services of his longtime collaborator Thabiso Thabethe to produce what would be known as Sgandi JO! The EP is 4 songs deep and was released on the 21st of June in 2021 with a short documentary & a music video for Straata (Mo Ngwana’s Song) supporting the project. Sgandi JO! Got positive reviews in the spaces it managed to occupy. Avalon O’Henley wrote “his voice was made for storytelling” in her review of the Extended Play on a popular music blog Texx and the City.

In August of the same year Prodiiiiiii formed a trio with composer and pianist Bongani Givethanks & drummer Mpenduko. The trio recorded a 4-track EP under the moniker, Jazzed Out Trio. The project is called Sgandi Rap.

January of 2022 saw Prodiiiiiii work on his full length offering alongside Thabiso Thabethe. The album features 9 songs. Thabiso brought in saxophonist De Arabian Sax to be a constant in the album. Sgandi via Pinky’s was released on the 28th of January.
