Mayor Tenna

Mayor Ikemefune Tenna, known professionally as Mayor Tenna, is a musical artist from Delta State in Southern Nigeria. He grew up in a nuclear family of 8 with his parents and 5 siblings (3 brothers and 2 sisters). He is the last of 6 children. Fans popularly refer to him as the "Mayor of all kings".

Mayor was born on May 14. He spent his early highschool days at St. Augustine's and St. Thomas's highschool (both situated in his hometown of Ibusa in Delta State, Nigeria). He moved to Edo State, Benin City, Nigeria in the year 2015 and proceeded with academics at Genius Comprehensive school where he obtained his higher school/WASSCE certificate. Mayor Tenna is now a graduate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) where he studied Industrial Mathematics.

When he was once interviewed, he said, “I was more into drawing as a kid. My elder sister, Victoria, would bring me out most mornings and make me recite Professor Linkin’s songs and poems, word for word. Even if I mumbled, she’d still cheer me up lol. I was once in the choir too."

Dude has a versatility in arts, as he’s an artist and an artiste. Playing tennis, playing videogames, drawing and painting tops his hobbies.

“Aside drawing, what else can you do?" My Physics teacher asked me years back. I was puzzled by this question for sometime. It really hit me. I began exploring my options, and in that frame of thought, I saw listening to and creating good music was another thing I enjoyed spending time on. This was how I found music”, Tenna said.

His first song ever is Unbeatable Duo featuring  Icekid.

Growing up he listened to hip-hop legends like Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, J.Cole, Vector tha Viper, M.I Abaga, Jesse Jags, Yung6ix, Olamide Badoo, Mr Raw, Phyno Fino, Phenom, Maxino and Afro-beat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti which allured him to draw inspiration from various genres to enhance his sound.

Mayor Tenna is a wildcard musician that don’t create music for a particular “sect of people”. He balances everything. He’s got fans who love conscious rap songs, some love songs, some the commercial kinda and some, motivational songs so he does all of these and more.

He is an anomaly artiste that knows how to entertain. Audience members and fans have described Mayor Tenna as “excellent musicianship combined with entertaining showpersonship”.
