Chris Obehi

Bio

Chris Obehi was born in Nigeria in 1998. His family introduced him to gospel music as a child. In 2015, he fled his country due to religious persecution by Boko Haram. He reached Libya first, then Lampedusa crossing the Mediterranean with other migrants, and finally Palermo, where his musical exploration, curiosity, and desire to integrate led him to discover Sicilian singer-songwriter Rosa Balistreri. This marked the beginning of his musical career in Europe, thanks to his cover of the song in Sicilian dialect, "Cu Ti Lu Dissi," which garnered millions of views on YouTube.

MUSICAL JOURNEY
He then began participating in the first major festivals in Sicily, such as Mondo Sounds Festival (San Vito Lo Capo) and Festivalle (Agrigento). In 2020, he released his first album for 800A Records, "OBEHI," which means "Angel Hands" in the Esan language.
In "Non Siamo Pesci," the album's only Italian-language track, which would later become the soundtrack to the documentary "The Welcome Table" by Oscar -nominated American director Josh Fox, Obehi draws inspiration from his personal experience, the 2015 dinghy journey to Lampedusa, and his narrow escape from shipwreck.
In December 2019, he won the SIAE Award for Young Authors at "Musica Contro Le Mafie."
At the end of 2021, with a project supported by Italia Music Export, he managed to return to Nigeria to record a single with Egypt 80, Seun Kuti's band, which also belonged to his father, Fela Kuti. The single, recorded in Lagos, was released in February 2022 under the title "Actions And Consequences."
In 2025, he participated in the television program "Dalla strada al palco" on Rai1, performing a duet with Malyka Ayane. He was again invited by Rai to perform a concert for Africa Day alongside Fiorella Mannoia, Leo Gassman, and many other prominent Italian artists.
