Flex of He & I
Bio
Phomolo Sekamotho, popularly known as Flex (of He & I), is a musician and poet from Thabong, South Africa. He performs live with the mbira and an Ableton Push, this arrangement serves as a backdrop for storytelling and spoken word. He & I is an alternative, 'poetry in music' band that draws on African indigenous music and hip-hop. His travels have taken him to New York, Washington DC (USA), Uppsala, Stockholm (Sweden), Gdynia (Poland), Harare (Zimbabwe), and Maseru (Lesotho).
“The vision is to preserve African storytelling and traditional instruments through a contemporary landscape. Africa has a rich tapestry of stories, what better way is there to tell these stories than to tell them ourselves?!”
Peace is of a Struggle, Flex of He & I's debut album, was released in October 2020. The sophomore album is scheduled for release in 2024.
