Ben Mankhamba

Bio

Ben Michael Mankhamba is a Malawian guitarist, singer, songwriter, composer, performer, producer, percussionist, and choreographer.

In 2000, he founded his own band known as the Zigzaggers. In 2004, he was credited for producing a film title track song for one of the popular Malawian soap opera called 'Mama's Restaurant'. he has written songs for a theater company called Rise Up Malawi. He also created a sound track song for adapted African Macbeth.

In November 2012, he released a single 'Kadona'. 'Moyo Wantauni', 'Anajere', 'Street Vendor', 'Tigube', 'Alonda' and 'Press Conference' are some of the albums credited to his name.

He is a three times winner of the Malawian Kuche Kuche Music awards. He became the Malawi ambassador organised by a local NGO called Eye for Development.

He has represented Malawi in a number of festivals such as the 85th Agriculture Commercial Show in Lusaka, Zambia, African FreedomDay in Lusaka, Zambia, 2nd pan African Cultural Festivalin Algiers, Algeria with the Zig-Zaggersrs Band, the Southern African Development Co-operation (SADC) Arts Festival in South Africa.

He has performed at many festivals both local and international festivals. These include the Bayimba Festival in Kampala, Uganda, World Land Mines in Nairobi, Kenya, at World AIDS Day in Tokyo Japan with Kohei Yamada and at Victoria Falls Jazz Festival in Zimbabwe.

He has also performed and conducted workshops in German, Muchen, and Hannover City with Blantyre Arts Festival Acoustic Trio. He also teaches African Drumming Essemble in schools. He established Paterela Drama Group. He has composed and arranged songs for Primary School Education Radio Programmes for Curriculum and Assesment Reform.
