SA: Joy of Jazz to host charity event for disabled pupils

Artists billed to perform at the Jazz Cares event are Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse, Sobantwana, Nelisiwe Sibiya and RJ Benjamin. The event is part of JOJ’s social responsibility drive in support of underprivileged communities, with Ezibeleni School pupils set to receive stationary, clothes and food, among other gifts.

“Joy of Jazz is nothing without the people that relentlessly support it, therefore we take it upon ourselves to give back to our communities,” JOJ producer and T-Musicman general manager, Mantwa Chinoamadi, said. “We believe in the spirit of giving and making a difference where we can. When we heard of Ezibeleni, we felt the need to do something and support the school.

“This is not a once-off, we are committed to sustaining our involvement with this school and hope to impact the learners the best way we can. We are thankful to the artists who have taken time off their busy schedules to be with us at Ezibeleni. We can’t wait to bring smiles to their faces.”

JOJ said in a statement: “The beneficiaries we have visited include homes for the aged, children’s homes and special needs homes with the aim to renovate and entertain. Giving our time and a helping hand on that one day is what makes this initiative distinctive and heart-warming."

This year's JOJ will be held at Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg from 26 to 28 September. The event, which is in its 22nd edition, will run under the theme, Jazz in 19Afrika.
