Ras Luwi

Bio

Ras Luwi (real name Luise Kudakwashe Kasose) is a musician from Zimbabwe who was born on 17 April 1983 in Kwekwe. He grew up in Kwekwe and attended Chinhoyi High and Kwekwe high schools. His passion for music began in 1996. He draws his passion for music from musians such as Salif Keita, Baba Maal and Oliver Mtukudzi. Ras Luwie is currently based in Namibia. Back then, he would attend lives shows such as Zig Zag Band, Tuku and ragga Gigs-Silverstone, Stereo 1 and many others. He is a lead vocalist, song-writer and the founder of the band Rythm Afrika. The name Rythm Afrika comes from his type of music which is a fusion of all African originated beats including Rhumba, Reggae, Township Jazz etc with Acoustic Guitar as the pivot of the sound.

In 2003, he and his friends established a group called ABYCE (Association of Boyz U Call Entertainers). The group recorded a number of songs but had financial challenges releasing them. The group disbanded and he went on sabbatical only to make a ccome in 2007. In that year, he became a leading vocalist for a band called Steamerz. The music set recorded an album titled ‘Zuva Rabuda’. The album never made it into the streets owing to poor quality. He relocated to Namibia in 2008 to pursue his career as an atisian in the marine industry.

In 2012, he established a studio and managed to record and released an eight-track debut album called ‘Ndafunga Kure’. Some of the songs that featured on the album are ‘Sofia’, ‘Doro’ ‘Zviuya’ and ‘Tichatevera’. The album was followed with the release of a DVD which featured two songs ‘Sofia’ and ‘Tichatevera’. The success of his debut album prompted him to launch another album ‘Chiyedza’ in 2014.
