Delani Makhalima

Bio

Delani Makhalima is a songwriter, singer and producer from Zimbabwe. He made his name in the country’s music industry by becoming one of the first producers to produce an album ‘The Future’ (2002) which featured young artists. He teamed up with businessman Gilbert Muvavarirwa to record the album. The album was recorded at his Galaxy Records studio. The album marked the beginning of urban grooves music. It featured David Chipfunyise's 'Tauya Naye'. Some of the artists whose songs featured on the album include Sanii Makhalima, Willom Tight, Roki, Leonard Mapfumo, Stach, Decibel, Betty Makaya, Extra Large, Maskiri, and Alexio Kawara. Since then, he began producing for names such as Roy and Royce, and many more.

In 2002, he together with Dino Mudondo formed a group Second Nature. The group split and he went on to form another one with Alexio Kawara, Brain Garikai and Donda Khumalo. They released a song called 'Amai'. As a radio personality, he has worked on quite a number of radio stations in the country and abroad. In 200, he joined South African radio station Metro FM, as a trainee presenter.

After a couple of months he began presenting a slot on the station hosting a show called the 'Playground' during weekends. This saw him getting recognised among the top radio DJs on the continent. He went on to work with DJs Sbu, Christos, Glenn Lewis, Bonang, Phat Joe, Kenny Maistry, Unathi, TBo Touch, Oskido, the late Eddie Zondi and legendary Wilson B Nkosi. In August 2014, he was selected to be part of the adjudication committee for the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) which took place in November of that year.
