Bio

Born in Oshakati on 13 May 1987, Matthew Kapofi (aka Mappz) began writing music at the age of 14. He was influenced by South African musicians such as TKZee and Mdu and American artists Mos Def, Eminem and Nas. He fuses hip-hop verses with English and Oshiwambo languages, creating a unique depth in his music.

Mappz started his career as an aspiring rapper with his neighbor Qonja. He introduced Qonja to Fredro,a guy who used to make beats from his home studio. Fredro promised to produce music for the twosome, and the three formed a team. In mid-2005, Qonja and Mappz recorded a song called ‘54321’, produced by Fredo. Following the success of the song, the duo recorded, ‘Koek n Jam’ (translated as ‘cake and jam’) in early 2006.

The artist has collaborated with a number of Namibian artists such as Blacksheep and P.O on, ‘Do it for Kwaito’, Skoko on ‘What it is’, Gazza on ‘Revelations’, Qonja on ‘Ngahaike’, Tequila on ‘Gossip’ and many others.
