Tony Kofi
Bio
Tony Kofi was born in Nottingham, United Kingdom, to Ghanaian parents, in 1966. He began to play the Saxophone, whilst a teenager in Leicester, UK, in his teens. He went on to study Music at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, in the U.S.A, with proficiency in the Baritone, Soprano and Alto Saxophones, as well as Flute.
On return to the UK in 1991, he embarked on a series of high-level collaborations, with some of the world's finest Jazz names, such as Claude Deppa, Lonnie Liston Smith, Donald Byrd, Courtney Pine, Lucky Ranku's African Jazz and many more. He was also part of two of the UK's finest Jazz bands, The Jazz Warriors and Nu Troop.
He was to form his own groups, the Tony Kofi Quartet and Tony Kofi Trio, as well as co-founding the Monk Liberation Band, all of which continue to perform at various venues around the world. He is also signed on to the UK Specific Jazz label.
