Samini
Bio
Samini (born Emmanuel Andrews Samini) is a singer, songwriter, performer and recording Artist. He stands as one the most consistent and most outstanding Ghanaian musicians to have graced the scene in the past two decades since his breakout in 1999. He terms his brand of music as a mixture of African melodies, dancehall, reggae, hip-hop and native Ghanaian high-life music.
From 1999 to 2007, he was known as Batman (an acronym for Best of All Time Man). The year 2007 saw a rebirth of his brand and a new stage name 'Samini' through a release of a self-titled album. He did that to place more emphasis on his pride as a Native from Wa in the Upper West Region in the northern part of Ghana where he has been en-skinned as a chief with the title 'Pilibii Naa'.
Samini was first signed to Ashanti International in Ghana and later signed with Lexifri Productions before he started his own record label – Samini Music. He later launched a fan base called HighGrade Family which he has kept to date. Samini recently signed a management deal with Africa 1 Media as an addition to their roster of super-star talents.
With 7 Studio Albums to his credit, The Capricorn star keeps selling Ghanaian music to the world immensely and has performed on stage with the likes of Shaggy, Jay Z, Akon, Kranium, Culture, Kelly Rowland, Rocky Dawuni, Beenie Man, Sean Paul, Elephant Man, Wizkid, Morgan Heritage (to mention a few), travelling almost every part of the world with his music and culture over the years.
Samini broke onto the world music stage when he became the first 'Best African Act' winner at the prestigious MOBO Awards in 2006. His popularity on the world music stage grew even bigger when he won 'Artiste of the Year' and a couple more awards at the Ghana Music Awards in 2007.
The award winning streak continues to date including more wins at the VGMA's, MAMA’s, IRAWMA, Headies, etc. His latest Album 'Untamed' was voted Album of the Year 2018 at Europe’s most authoritative Reggaeville Awards, Samini became the first Artist from Africa to win it. The Album also debuted at Number 8 on the World Billboard Charts.
The strongest point of Samini’s career has been his longevity as a brand and his sterling outputs as a performer, a spot he shares with none of his contemporaries even though he is considered a complete musician by many that consider him as a national music asset and a living legend even at his young age.
