Musicians Association of South Africa (MASA)

The Musicians Association of South Africa (MASA) is an organization in South Africa committed to raising industry standards and placing the professional musician in the foreground of the cultural landscape. MASA is a collective of music professionals, based in South Africa, stimulated by concerns that the country’s music industry has few professional standards and lacks support structures and legal resources. This results in artists being exploited by opportunists who undermine the creative and production efforts of serious professionals. The problems affect all areas of the industry creating an environment of mistrust which impacts negatively on all sales, services and general desirability.

As music professionals MASA has been working since 2012 to create a collective body of music fellows to join forces, share resources and cooperate in an effort to promote a fairer industry. Their key objectives are be to encourage fair play and offer a level of professional standards that encourage both decent pay and satisfied customers.
