Bio

Lydiah Dola, is a composer, singer, guitarist, and a social activist born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya. Apart from entertainment she uses her voice and power for social and environmental change.

She is one of Kenya’s up and coming afro-fusion female artists and the founder of African Tunes of Peace under the umbrella, Peace Addicts. Together with Dan “Chizzy” Aceda, now one of Kenya’s best male afro-fusion artists, they formed a duo and started writing and singing mainly Gospel music.

Her first attempt to share the unity that African music brings to the world was when she was nominated as the most promising female in Africa at the prestigious Kora all Africa Music Awards held in Sandton City, South Africa.

She has performed at various forums in Kenya and across the world, preaching the message of peace, love and unity. The single song ‘A better World is Possible’, made a great impact at the India Social Forum in New Delhi, and at the World Social Forum in Nairobi, Kenya.

She was a member of the Alliance Française Spotlight on Kenyan music and one of the many artists who toured the country in 2008 in the peace and reconciliation concerts organised by the Alliance francaise in Nairobi. The project has left an indelible mark on the musical scene in Kenya by reaching out to diverse audiences across the country in building bridges and respect between culturally distinct communities.

Through CMFD, She was involved in the making and recording of the six-part serial drama, Crossroads, which was recently awarded by Radio for Peace building Africa in the Africa Awards Special Category. She was one of the main characters and developers of the drama’s theme song.

She was among the 20,000 women and men who marched in solidarity with women in the DR Congo on October 17, 2010 to call for economic and social change, demilitarization, and an end to rape being used as a weapon of war. Her music was greatly appreciated by the Congolese sisters as she sang and danced to freedom.

Last year she was involved in the pre-election peace and good governance music festivals in Nairobi, Kenya.

Some of her songs and music have been used in short films and radio programs for peace and humanity by different organizations including Oxfam GB, Men for Gender Equality Now (MEGEN) and Legal resource foundation.

The journey continues as she carries on her duties throughout the world, sharing her voice with the voiceless. Her values and actions are directed at providing quality music entertainment to her audience as she shares the beauty of Kenyan music with the world. This year, she is back in the studio to record her second album as she organizes a series of concerts and tours in Africa and around Europe that will feature collaboration with a few international artists in Denmark, Mozambique, Rwanda and Ghana.
