Winnie Mashaba

Bio

Winnie grew up in Steelpoort, Limpopo and started singing at an early age. She left school in 1998 after passing Grade 11 to follow her passion for music. She was introduced to popular producer and musician Solly Moholo, who recorded her debut album, Exodus 20. Its release in 2000 and immediately put her on the map. Since then she has continued to released albums and DVDs, all big sellers, earning her a loyal audience throughout Southern Africa. She has been nominated for numerous awards, including a Kora for Best African Spiritual Female in 2005, as well as Samas and Metro FM Music Awards. In 2010 she was named Best Female Artist at the Crown Gospel Awards. 

In 2012 she released her 12th album, Bophelo Ke Leeto, which was nominated for Best Traditional Faith Music Sama the following year. That year she returned to school to finish matric and pursue a degree in Psychology, partly to motivate the youth to take their education seriously. She also ventured into business by establishing Tswako Music Company and Redifilwe Events and Travelling agency.
