Nomabotwe Mtimkulu

Nomabotwe Mtimkulu is an Afrosoul singer from South Africa.
Nomabotwe Mtimkulu was born in Port Elizabeth, in a church-going, God-fearing family. From a very young age, she attended church and was influenced by both Gospel and Choral music. It was clear from the beginning that she has a very strong artistic side and will go far in the music industry. Nomabotwe and two of her friends formed a musical group that took the afro-soul industry by storm and called Maisha, It became famous for its unique sound and inspiring chords. All members decided that it would be best if they tried to spread their wings and went solo.

Nomabotwe as a solo artist was then born, furnished with experience from sharing the stage with some of the best artists South Africa has seen and also singing back-up for the likes of the late Stompie Mavi, Ringo Madlingozi, Siphokazi, and Thandiswa. She has won all vocal competitions she entered. Nomabotwe draws inspiration from the likes of the late Mama Busi Mhlongo, Simpiwe Dana and Mama Miriam Makeba. She also embraces her youth by writing songs that speak about the struggles of the youth of today and celebrates the bright future that the country has. She caters for everyone young and old in a way that would make everyone feel celebrated and embraced.

Nomabotwe sang at the Presidents inauguration in Cape Town and blessed the President with an original compilation. Some of her best originals include Qhakaza, which is a song that inspires young women to nurture their beauty and never apologize for their God-given talents and gifts. Her humility has earned her the respect of many other Nelson Mandela Bay Artists and those from outside. She had sold out shows in Nelson Mandela Bay Metro including the Operah House. She got a standing Ovation at the National Grahamstown Festival. Nomabotwe has traveled and performed in many cities around SA She is more than ready to travel internationally.

Nomabotwe’s talents are not only singing she was featured in a stage play called “After Marikana” that was part of the Grahamstown National Arts Festival and got standing ovations and also went on to Zabalaza in Baxter Theater, Cape Town. This production made waves in Port Elizabeth as well and was a huge success at the Opera House, being sold-out more than once. This opportunity couldn’t have come at a better time as she also did a very successful stage production with Mongezi Ncwadi, one of PE’s finest writers. Rest in Peace mama opened at Iphulo Drama Festival, at the PE Opera House in April 2018 and showed again on the closing night.

Having been on the news for all the right reasons, from sold-out shows at the PE Opera House to winning the Imilonji competition hosted in Port Elizabeth has given her an opportunity to grow as an artist and as a person.
