We Are Nubia

We Are Nubia is a rising Kenyan Afro-pop and contemporary R&B duo from Nairobi, consisting of singer-songwriters Maggie Atieno and Gloria Munga. Known for blending Swahili storytelling with soulful urban sounds, their name is inspired by "Nubia" symbolizing value, resilience, and cultural pride.

Maggie and Gloria first bonded in 2020 while singing in a local 5-piece choir group. As other members moved on, the two decided to forge their own path, officially forming We Are Nubia.Their music merges contemporary R&B, Afro-soul, Afro-pop, and traces of traditional Taarab.,they sing largely in Swahili, exploring themes of love, loss, healing, and the everyday experiences of womanhood.

Beyond their musical endeavors, the duo is highly educated and multifaceted. Maggie has a background in law and Gloria in IT, and they also pursue entrepreneurship, including poultry farming.

They broke into the national spotlight in 2024 with the hit single "Niko Sawa". They followed this success with the massive, Taarab-tinged collaboration "DND" in 2025.Expanding their reach, they released their highly praised debut 5-track EP, Needs, which delves into modern love and relationship commitment.

Their rising popularity earned them a nomination for Best African Duo/Band at the All Africa Music Awards(AFRIMA). Cementing their status as one of Nairobi's most compelling live acts, they delivered a standout performance at the prestigious Blankets & Wine festival.
