Multi-award-winning Afro-soul singer Berita is set to perform at the Market Theatre on 1 May 2026 as part of a Workers’ Day concert titled Echoes of the Soul.

The performance will take place at the venue’s John Kani Theatre and marks the second edition of the concert, which is being presented in partnership with the SAMPRA Development Fund.
According to organisers, the concert will feature Berita performing alongside a nine-piece ensemble and guest artists in a show reflecting on her 14-year music career. The setlist is expected to include reworked versions of some of her best-known songs and other material from her catalogue.
“This show is a homecoming for my music and my spirit,” Berita said. “Moving into the John Kani Theatre allows us to truly honour the music. I want to share the stories behind the songs and the moments in between that have echoed in my soul over the years.”
Berita first gained national recognition in 2012 with the release of her debut song ‘Thandolwethu’. She later released albums including Conquering Spirit, Songs of Empowerment, Berita and Songs in the Key of Love. Her music catalogue includes songs such as ‘Jikizinto’, ‘Ndicel’ikiss’ and ‘Siyathandana’.
Over the course of her career, she has collaborated with artists including Amanda Black and Da Capo. She has also cited mentorship and collaborations with late jazz musician Hugh Masekela, Zimbabwean musician Oliver Mtukudzi and singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka as influential in shaping her career.
The singer has previously performed at events including the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz, the Lake of Stars Festival in Malawi and the Bayimba International Festival in Uganda.
